The fundamental rules governing the Chamber’s system of elections are contained in the consolidated legislation of Presidential Decree 361 of 30 March 1957, which has undergone a number of amendments, including those contained in Law 277 of 4 August 1993 (the implementing regulations for which are contained in Presidential Decree 14/1994). Law 277 introduced the “mixed” majority and proportional system that replaced the fully proportional system previously in force. In the absence of official codification, this section contains the version of the consolidated legislation drawn up by the Chamber’s Research Department. This includes subsequent amendments up to those contained in Law 17 of 5 February 2003. This section also enables users to consult Law 459/2001 (and implementing regulations as adopted through Presidential Decree 104 of 2003) regarding the exercise of the right to vote by Italian citizens residing abroad.
